Honda has confirmed that Max Verstappen will use the fourth specification of this year's powertrain in the upcoming Monza race, which means that the Dutchman will start the race for the Italian GP from the start of the race.

Alexander Honda and Daniil Kvyat have already tested the new Honda drive unit in the Belgian race, while Verstappen and Pierre Gasly will race for the first time this weekend in Monza for the fourth specification.

Verstappen will thus exceed the allowable number of three drive units that each racer can use during the season, meaning that regardless of the qualifying result, the race will start from the background of the starting line.

Honda boss Toyoharu Tanabe is nevertheless convinced that the Dutchman in Monza can make the breakthrough.

This time around, the fourth spec will also feature Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly, and we believe they can break into the forefront. We have obtained a lot of useful information at Spa and will try to maximize the impact of our powertrain on the Monza Expressway. This is a track that overtakes and I don't think starting from the background is that problematic.
