Formula One World Champion 1997 Jacques Villeneuve is convinced that Charles Leclerc was sent off without a penalty in the Italian GP race simply because the FIA did not dare to punish him Ferrari at the Monza home race.
Leclerc received a warning for aggressively closing Hamilton, and Villeneuve believes that another runner for this maneuver immediately received a penalty of five seconds.
The Canadian told Motorsport-Magazin.com :
“It's hard to tell the truth, because everyone tells you you're an idiot.” Leclerc should be treated like any other racer, and the fact is that he sent Hamilton into the sand. The FIA simply did not dare to punish Ferrari in the home race. It must be remembered that he chopped chops and claimed a significant advantage, but they did not even investigate. ”
