It was a day full of surprises on Saturday at Misano as Yamaha leads KTM on the front row, with big hitters further down the order

Qualifying day at the GP Octo di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini threw up some shocks. Pol Espargaro (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) will start from P2 after Maverick Viñales (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) snatched a dream debut pole for the Austrian factory. Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) will start from his worst qualifying of the year while other big names struggled.

Here are 10 things to know ahead of what looks set to be a phenomenal San Marino GP:

1. Maverick Viñales (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) has qualified on pole position for the eighth time in the premier class of Grand Prix racing, equalling Luca Cadalora. This is the 19th pole position of Viñales’ career. In addition, this is his first pole position since Qatar, and his second of the year so far, one more than the whole 2018 season.
