The poleman proved he’s got the credentials to win whatever the weather at MotorLand Aragon come race time
Sterilgarda Max Racing Team’s Aron Canet proved he’s got race-winning pace whatever the weather at the Gran Premio Michelin® de Aragon later today after topping this morning’s warm-up session held in wet conditions.
Moto3™ Day 2: Canet on pole with Tatay coming to the fore 21/09/2019
The 44 put in an undisputable lap after fighting through Q1, to finish on pole alongside Ogura and Red Bull Rookies champion Carlos Tatay
Heavy rain overnight and during the course of the morning meant all of the lightweight class were forced to exit pitlane with wet tyres but it didn’t bother the poleman as Canet jumped to the top of the timesheets with his final flying lap.
He ended 0.063 clear of the impressive debutant Jose Julian Garcia, riding for the VNE Snipers squad as a replacement for the injured Romano Fenati. Completing the top three and further showcasing his wet weather credentials was Petronas Sprinta Racing’s John McPhee.
WWR’s Jaume Masia closed the session fourth fastest before Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Alonso Lopez completed the top five. World Championship leader Lorenzo Dalla Porta, who produced some glorious shots by using a clear visor, ended tenth overall.
The lightweight scrap gets underway at 11:20 (GMT 2) local time with poleman Canet aiming to bounce back from his San Marino technical woes by taking a chunk out of Dalla Porta’s 22 points Championship lead.
