Charles Leclerc made a solid start from the pole position, with Sebastian Vettel firing from the start to take the lead in the first corner. Carlos Sainz, who attacked Lewis Hamilton but also managed to defend the second place, started great from fifth place.

In the background, there was a clash between Daniel Ricciard, Antonio Giovinazzi and Romain Grosjean, and the Frenchman had to finish the race for the Russian GP in the first round. A safety car was immediately driven to the track due to a stopped Haas car, and Sebastian Vettel ran the race ahead of Charles Leclerc.

Despite Vettel's instructions, his team-mate did not drop his head and continued to make fast laps, which Charles Leclerc didn't like the least, and Monacan repeatedly complained about the matter by radio. Ferrari was said to have agreed before the race that Leclerc offered his teammate a leeway at the start of the race to overtake Lewis Hamilton, but the German also chased away his teammate in the first corner.

Leclerc: “I completely understand. The only thing is that I respected. I gave the slipstream no problems. But then I tried to push at the beginning of the race, but it's no problems. Manage the situation “ # F1 # RussianGP

Vettel did not give in, and the German quickly gained a few seconds ahead of Leclerc, and both Ferraris could only be conditionally followed by Lewis Hamilton. Ferrari called Leclerc in the box as the first to drive a tire . lap of the race. Vettel continued on the track for four more laps, and after the stop, the German returned just behind his team mate.

As soon as he returned to the track via radio, Vettel reported a malfunction of the MGU-K system and the German parked his Ferrari along the track. Vettl's breakdown came at the least opportune moment for Ferrari, as Hamilton took advantage of the virtual safety car regime and returned to race management with a new set of soft tires.

Immediately afterwards, George Russell collided with the security fence and again pulled the security car onto the track. At Ferrari, Leclerc was once again called to the boxing and Monacan returned to the track for third place, including for Valtteri Bottas.
