Sebastian Vettel ended the race for the GP of Russia due to a failure of the power unit after the first stops, while the German repeatedly ignored calls by Ferrari to leave his place to Charles Leclerc.
After starting from third place, Vettel overtook Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc with the help of a tow and broke into the lead of the race. The German would then have to return to Leclerc on the basis of a team agreement, something the four-time world champion did not want to do.
