Formula 1 and the FIA confirmed in a press release that all authorities are vigilant in monitoring the weather in Japan, and that the competent services will do their utmost to keep the race weekend in Suzuki as small as possible.

The tropical storm Hagibis has formed over the Pacific, evolving into a Category 5 tall typhoon on Monday. Weather scientists have already issued a red alert, as some models suggest that Hagibis could reach Japan with a tall typhoon status this weekend, potentially jeopardizing the performance of the Formula One race on Sunday.

F1 and FIA wrote in a press release:

Formula 1, the FIA and the Japan Automobile Association will do everything possible to minimize the impact of Hagibis on the race weekend. Still, the safety of racers, teams and spectators is a priority. The situation is closely monitored and decisions will be taken on an ongoing basis.

According to current forecasts, Hagibis could hit Suzuka on Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning, just in time for the Formula One race weekend. Even before reaching the mainland, the system could be weakened, but could still be at risk a traditional F1 race for the GP of Japan in Suzuki.
