After Friday's free practice in Suzuki, Charles Leclerc admitted to being somewhat surprised at Ferrari at the speed Mercedes showed on the Japanese track on the first day of the race weekend.

Leclerc finished fourth in free practice, with Monacan lagging by a good three tenths in the fastest time.

The Ferrari racer acknowledged that the Maranell team had been expecting a bit more from the start of the race weekend before the race for the GP of Japan.

“At the moment, we seem to be missing some rhythm compared to Mercedes. We have been very strong in the last four races and we expected it to be similar in Suzuki, but we have a bit more trouble here. Mercedes stands out a little while we are more or less on par with Red Bull. The feeling in the car is not bad, but it lacks a bit of grip. We will try to change some of the settings and I hope you fabricate Sundays manage to take it a step further. ”
