Valtteri Bottas [Mercedes] was fastest in the 1st free training session before the race for the GP of Japan in Suzuki. The Finn was faster than his team-mate Lewis Hamilton by a tenth of a second, while Sebastian Vettel [Ferrari] was third by a second.
