Immediately in the first reaction after the end of the race in Mexico, Ferrari chief Mattia Binotto dismissed allegations that Ferrari had misplaced his victory with the wrong strategy.
Despite leading Ferrari drivers from the first starting line in the introductory race, Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton managed to surprise Scuderio with an earlier stop, and Vettel and Leclerc finished 2nd and 4th respectively.
Binotto dismissed allegations of a wrong strategy after the race.
“I think we have done the right thing. Looking back now, it may have been our only mistake to rule out one stop too soon. The fact is, however, that such risk can be afforded by those behind us while we were running the race. I am pleased that the team is disappointed with the second place, as this indicates a great desire to win. ”
