Former Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone doubts that Sebastian Vettel is a racer who can take Ferrari back to the path of glory, as Michael Schumacher did at the turn of the millennium.
In an interview with Gazzetto dello Sport, Ecclestone explained his view of Ferrari’s current situation:
Sebastian made mistakes, the team made mistakes and the result is appropriate. Before the season, I was convinced that they would win the title this year, but they did not manage to do so despite having the best car on average. It seems to me that Sebastian has succumbed to all the pressure that is building around him at Ferrari. This is not the relaxed Seb we watched at Red Bull. Michael Schumacher was the leader of Ferrari and pulled the team out of crisis. I don’t think Vettel is, and I strongly doubt that this can change. Ferrari are facing a challenging task as they face a typically Italian problem. They have everything they need, but they don’t seem to have the right people in the right places.
