Mercedes racer Valtteri Bottas, after resigning in Brazil, is threatened with a penalty in the last race of the season in Abu Dhabi.
Bottas ended the race in Brazil due to a powertrain failure 20. laps before the end, but after the race the Finn revealed that his Mercedes had simply turned off.
“I think there was some smoke and then it all went off, even though I didn't feel any loss of power myself.”
Team technical director James Allison confirmed that Mercedes' Bottas powertrain will be analyzed first and then decided whether it can be reused.
“We do not yet know the exact cause of the failure, because everything happened very quickly. Half a lap earlier we saw that something was wrong and then the engine simply stopped. Now we have to analyze everything together, and then we will make a decision. ”
