Notorious racer Mahaveer Raghunathan received so many penalty points this season that he pointed out a hole in the sports code that the FIA closed after the end of the season.
Raghunathan put the penalty system to the test when he twice reached the non-compete threshold of 12 penalty points.
Even though the Indian 12 scored points in free training before the last race in Abu Dhabi, he was still able to enter the race , as the penalty only goes into effect at the next race. Since the F2 penalty points are cleared at the end of each year, this actually means that Raghunathan has avoided penalties. As a result, the FIA amended its policy, which reads:
“If the racer reaches 12. penalty points in qualifying or free training, upright will miss the race weekend continuation. ”
