Alexander Sims (GBR) won the Mexico City E-Prix (MEX) thanks to a clever racing strategy and equally strong efficiency of the BMW i drive train by 13 positions fought forward and the fourth season race of the ABB FIA System E Championship ended in fifth place. In addition, he secured a point for the fastest lap. With now 46, Sims is only second in the drivers' standings one point behind new leader Mitch Evans (NZL, Jaguar), who won the race in Mexico. BMW i Andretti Motorsport continues to lead the team standings with 71.

It didn't look like such a strong result after qualifying. Sims and Maximilian Günther (GER) did not find the perfect space-up and had to deal with the starting positions 18 and 16 content. From there, Sims drove a clever race from the start, shared his energy reserves very well and worked his way continuously. Fifth place and the fastest lap were the deserved reward for a race that was both driver and strategically flawless. Günther had more problems to assert himself in the midfield duels and ultimately did not get past eleventh.

Jens Marquardt (BMW Team Motorsport Director): “Congratulations to Alexander Sims and the entire BMW i Andretti Motorsport crew for this fantastic race to catch up from the starting position 18 on Advise five! After the disappointment in qualifying, we drew the right conclusions for the race, handled the energy of the BMW i drivetrain with care and, unlike some of our competitors, made no mistakes. Unfortunately for Maximilian Günther this time it didn't go to Notion, he wore himself up in midfield duels. The fact that Alexander drove the fastest lap shows what speed in the BMW iFE. 20 plugged. We continue to lead the team standings and Alexander is second in the drivers' standings. All of this makes us leave Mexico City with a good feeling. Many thanks to the Mexican followers and organizers for this incredible atmosphere in the stadium. You get goose bumps when you watch it. ”

Roger Griffiths (Team Principal BMW i Andretti Motorsport, team classification: 1st place): “After the poor qualifying result, we can be more than satisfied with fifth place for Alexander Sims. His performance in the race from so far back was exceptional. Thanks to him, we have expanded our leadership in the team standings and are very close to the top in the drivers' standings. That is a very positive conclusion for this weekend. Unfortunately for Maximilian Günther the whole rate was not optimal. For him it is important to quickly check off the weekend and look ahead. ”

Alexander Sims (# 27 BMW iFe. 20 Starting position: 18 Place, race result: 5th place, points: 46 , Driver classification: 2nd place): “After this qualifying we had a big challenge in the race. But we were able to save a lot of energy compared to our competitors, especially in the first part of the race, and then use it later to catch up. I really had a very strong car in the race. Overall, it's great to end a race day that initially looked like a disappointment with such a good result. ”

Maximilian Günther (# 28 BMW iFE . 20, start position : Place, race result: 11. Place, points: 25, driver rating: 8th place): “The battle is not our rate. First of all, we have to take a closer look, used to be los battle. For some reason we just didn't have the necessary speed in qualifying. That didn't get any better in the race for me – in contrast to Alexander, who really did a great job of catching up. In 2d I can only speculate what was the reason, but that makes no sense. We will analyze everything in detail and see how we can do better. ”
