(Motorsport-Total.com) – With the new regulations 2021 Racing in Formula 1 should be significantly better. The new rules are designed to significantly reduce dirty air and enable cars to drive close behind another car without losing as much downforce as is currently the case. Because the regulations 2020 remain stable for another year, no improvement is expected in the new season .

Sebastian Vettel fears that overtaking 2020 will be even more difficult Zoom Download

“I think the cars have got a bit worse this year in terms of following and overtaking,” Sebastian Vettel describes his impressions of the winter tests in Barcelona. “Of course everyone tried to bring more downforce to the car,” explains the Ferrari driver. Ultimately, every workforce is only interested in how fast their own car is.

The consequences for racing don't matter. “You don't worry so much about what happened in the back,” explains Vettel. “But if you're the back car yourself, it's not nice. We'll see,” he shrugs. Vettel's ex-teammate Daniel Ricciardo also explains with a smile that the dirty air 2020 is “pretty dirty” again.

“We are once again faster than last year. Turn 3 [in Barcelona] is easily full, turn 9 also rapidly every lap,” reports the Renault driver. “Unfortunately, on a course like this, with a lot of fast corners in the first two sectors, it is very difficult to follow other cars. I would like to say that it has gotten better, but it certainly is not,” said Ricciardo .

He also comes to the conclusion that the set is “maybe a little bit worse” than last year. If a car of the current generation drives a car length behind another car, it rapidly loses half of its downforce. For 2021, Formula 1 has set itself the goal of reducing this value to less than 15 to reduce percent.
