(Motorsport-Total.com) – The corona crisis in Formula 1 naturally also has an impact on the driver market. Only six pilots currently have a contract for the coming year, for all the others the current trouble could be too hot – even for top drivers like Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel.

Contract negotiations become more difficult for Vettel, Hamilton & Co. zoom Ranking

“I think the idea for all teams, including us, is that we have to race a few races and then put the remaining ones together and make the appropriate decisions,” McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl told Motorsport-Total.com.

With his team, however, things seem to be quite clear: Lando Norris is bound for another year, Carlos Sainz should extend. “As far as Became McLaren is concerned, our future is clearly geared towards Carlos and Lando – even if the final talks still have to be held here,” Seidl clarifies. So for McLaren Corona is not the big influence as with other teams.

Problems are more likely with others. Formula 2 drivers cannot currently recommend themselves for a cockpit without a race. So teams would either have to “blindly” commit new drivers or just cement the current pool of Formula 1 drivers. In addition, for Mick Schumacher & Co., they may not be able to collect points for the super license without a season.

Experienced athletes like Kimi Raikkonen, on the other hand, could still hang on for one season. The world champion of 2007 is often talked about from the outside about his career after the two Years at Alfa Romeo – and as a new Formula 1 starter.

The “Iceman” would need eleven races this season to catch up with Rubens Barrichello. A shortened or even canceled season would of course screw up this record. Raikkonen could, however, imagine continuing his career – but not because of the record that doesn't interest him. “I'm more motivated than ever,” he told Corriere della Serra.

Another hiss comes to top drivers like Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel. Although they do not run the risk of suddenly no longer finding a cockpit in Formula 1, contract negotiations are becoming more difficult thanks to the corona crisis.

Sebastian Vettel only had one at the beginning of the week Contract offer by Ferrari rejected according to media reports – also because it should earn less . But in times of Corona, the money should not be on the street – not even for a Lewis Hamilton who for 2021 is still without a contract.
