(Motorsport-Total.com) – The new team boss of Williams in Formula 1 has been determined – at least for an undefined transition period. After Claire Williams announced in Monza that she is resigning from her position as (officially only deputy) team boss with immediate effect , the traditional racing team today presented Simon Roberts as the new interim team boss.

Roberts (57) has been responsible for the Formula 1 crew from Grove as Managing Director and thus de facto responsible for day-to-day business. He came to Williams 2020 from McLaren. At McLaren he was most recently Operations Director (COO).

In industry circles he is also known for his key role in building today’s racing-level team (then known as Power India) when he 2009 as part of a technical partnership for one year from McLaren to Power India (also as COO).

At the same time, Williams has confirmed that the previous managing director Mike O’Driscoll is stepping down. This is not surprising, since documents in the British commercial register had already revealed his departure from the board of directors.

O’Driscoll (64) remains on board temporarily for the transfer of business before he withdraws completely. It was “a great privilege” to “work for this crew,” he says. “I am proud to have played my part in securing the long-term future of Williams.”
