sergio-perez-struggles-with-p9:-“we-screwed-up-the-strategy!”

(Motorsport-Total.com) – “I think we should definitely be a bit further ahead”, Sergio Perez quarrels after ninth place in qualifying at the Nürburgring ( Formula 1 2020 are living in the ticker ). The Mexican struggles a little with a tactical wrong decision by Racing Point, which in his opinion cost him the probability of a better placement. “We screwed up with the strategy,” he admits.

Sergio Perez was able to keep a McLaren behind him in Q3 Zoom Procure

Racing Point thought that the speed in Q1 would be sufficient to move into Q2 even on medium tires. But Perez quickly found himself below the cut and therefore had to use a set of soft tires again to qualify for Q2. “As a result, usa was missing a set in Q3 and we only had one set left,” he explains.

Difficult for him: The track changed significantly in the last section. “The wind increased enormously, so the steadiness was pretty bad. And unfortunately I only had one set,” says Perez. “In this respect we could have done a little better.”

So he will only start the race from ninth place tomorrow and foresees a difficult race for the future Aston Martin racing team. Because a second car is missing far in front because Lance Stroll had to pass for health reasons and replacement Nico Hülkenberg without preparation does not have rank 20 got out . Perez therefore lacked a good reference in qualifying.

In the race, Racing Point could therefore face a “painful fire for the championship”, as Perez fears. Above all, the two Renaults start sixth and seventh ahead of Racing Point and could catch up on important points – the French are currently only five points behind Racing Point ( to the overall World Championship standings ).

The unrest in the group did not necessarily help: “Everything went very quickly when Lance did not come this morning “says Perez. “I could see that the group was in a stressful battle.”

He himself doesn’t know exactly who is turned into with his teammate, but hopes that Stroll will be fine and he will be back soon can be on board. “Of course it was tough for Nico to go into qualifying right away. So it doesn’t look great for tomorrow.”

At least there is hope that the Eifel Grand Prix will be held because of the cold Conditions and the lack of training for everyone becomes a little unknown.
