Jonny Edgar (16, Van Amersfoort Racing) can hardly be stopped on the way to the championship title in the ADAC Formula 4. The Englishman celebrated his fifth win of the season at the Red Bull Ring in Austria and further increased his lead at the top of the table.

Edgar beat Frenchman Victor Bernier ( in the first run of the weekend. , R-ace GP) and Jak Crawford (, USA, Van Amersfoort Racing) and leads the overall standings now 40 points ahead of Crawford. On Sunday there are two more races on the traditional track near Spielberg in Styria. Edgar will start again from the pole put in the second run of the weekend.

“I had a good initiate and was able to defend the lead afterwards. It was an important victory for me, especially for the championship. I hope I can do that again tomorrow, “said Edgar. In the completely dry track conditions for the first time this weekend, the championship favorite took the lead in front of Bernier. The two US racing drivers Tim Tramnitz (15, Hamburg) and Elias Seppänen (16, Finland) lost two places each and had to let Joshua Dürksen (16, Berlin, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg eV) and Crawford go. In the second lap, Oliver Bearman (, England, US Racing) briefly fell off the track after a duel and initially fell back to the end of the field.

In the following rounds the field was divided into four groups. Edgar and Bernier took the lead, followed by the duo Dürksen / Crawford and the duel between Tramnitz and Seppänen. Behind it, the field’s leisure fought an exciting battle for the other places. Above all, ADAC Stiftung Sport-Förderpilot Tramnitz and Seppänen, who are behind Edgar and Crawford in the overall ranking, offered considerable racing. The Finn kept passing by, but Tramnitz always managed the counterattack. Only in the last third of the race Seppänen finally prevailed.

In the fight for the last podium place, he defended himself Dürksen against Crawford, but the Berliner went beyond what was allowed. Several times he violated the song limits and was initially given a five-second time penalty, then even a drive-through penalty followed, which deprived him of all chances of a good placement.

Edgar secured the victory in front of a strong Bernier, who always kept up with the pace of the leader, but could not attack. It was Bernier’s third podium this season. Behind Crawford, Seppänen finished fourth, ahead of Tramnitz, who was again the best rookie and further extended his lead in the ranking of the best newcomer. The two other US racing drivers Bearman and Vladislav Lomko (15, Russia) finished sixth and seventh. The Czech Josef Knopp (16, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg eV) was eighth ahead of Dürksen. The last point was secured during his season debut by Israeli Roee Meyuhas (20, R-ace GP).

The second race in Spielberg will take place on Sunday morning (09. 55 O’clock), the third run of the ADAC high-speed school follows on Sunday afternoon (16. 05 o’clock).
