Alfa Romeo and Sauber Motorsport will also compete together in the season 2020 of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship. The partnership between two of the most famous brands in motorsport goes back to the year 2018. At that time, Alfa Romeo joined the traditional Swiss racing team as the title sponsor. In the three years that have been contested together since then, the Group has achieved important results. 2018 and 2019 occupied the group in eighth place in the annual ranking. In the current Formula 1 season there is another fight for this position. In keeping with its strong competitive spirit, Alfa Romeo has accepted the challenge again.

Alfa Romeo and the Sauber Neighborhood – a technical and commercial partnership
The partnership between Alfa Romeo and the Sauber Neighborhood goes beyond racing. Part of the cooperation is also to transfer the racing know-how of Sauber Engineering to the technology of series vehicles of the Alfa Romeo brand. The focus is on the competence of Sauber in the fields of engineering and aerodynamics as well as in the production of composite materials.
Alfa Romeo already has its partner Sauber Engineering with the production of the carbon fiber components for the special models Giulia GTA and Giulia GTAm commissioned, which have influence on the aerodynamics. These include, for example, the redesigned front bumper, the adjustable front splitter, the side skirts, the diffuser below the rear apron, the small rear spoiler of the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and the large rear wing of the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm. The aerodynamics of the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm can be adapted to different characteristics of the racetrack by means of the manually adjustable entrance and rear wings, according to the requirements of the driver.
The aerodynamic tests in the wind tunnel were not limited to the body, but also included the underbody, which, like the standard top model Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, is completely covered. Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm also benefit from a newly developed air extraction system, which increases the vehicle’s downforce and thus ensures excellent road holding, especially at high speeds. The aerodynamic components of the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm build up about twice as high downforce in the maximum position as the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA achieves. Compared to the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, which previously set the benchmark in the segment, the value for downforce even triples.
Alfa Romeo looks on 110 Years of racing history back
One year after the founding of “Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili” on 24. June 1910 the brand made its official debut in the world of motor racing by winning a regularity race in Modena.
