Matheus Barbosa, a Brazilian Superbike racer, died after a horrific accident at the Interlagos racetrack, which has been the venue of the Formula 1 race for the Brazilian Grand Prix for many years.
A spokesman for the SuperBike series Brasil said the nearest medical team contacted the rider in 60 seconds, but he succumbed to severe injuries despite his efforts.
‘The nearest medical team reached Matheus in less than 60 seconds but despite all their efforts he succumbed to his critical injuries.
‘The cause of the accident is still being investigated. Out of respect to Matheus, and above all his family, the remaining day’s activities were immediately cancelled.’
