As announced by Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1, Lewis Hamilton was positive for COVID – 19 and will not participate in the upcoming Sakhir GP.

Lewis was tested three times in the past week and received a negative test result each time, most recently on Sunday afternoon at the Bahrain Worldwide Circuit as part of the usual test test ogramms on the race weekend.

However, on Monday morning he woke up with mild symptoms and at the same time was informed that a contact person he had been with prior to his arrival in Bahrain was in contact, subsequently tested positive. Lewis therefore underwent a retest, which was positive. The result was confirmed in a subsequent further test.

In accordance with the COVID – 19 – Lewis is now in isolation from regulations and the requirements of the public health authorities in Bahrain. Apart from slight symptoms he is fine and feeling fit.

The plans for a replacement driver for the upcoming weekend will be announced shortly. Perhaps, as so often this year, Nico Hülkenberg could step in as a replacement.
