German magazine Speedweek, which is owned by Red Bull, reports that the Red Bull F1 team will officially confirm on Friday that Sergio Perez will become Max Verstappen’s new team-mate for 2021 F1 season.

Perez, who had to give up his seat to Sebastian Vettel despite a valid contract with Racing Point, will race in Formula 1 next year after all. With the sensational win at Sakhir GP Perez become the first Mexican driver after 50 years who won Formula 1 race.

Perez’s arrival in Milton Keynes thus means that Alexander Albon is temporarily saying goodbye to the F1 grid. The Thai has not met the high expectations of his bosses at Red Bull in the last two seasons and will become a test driver for the Red Bull team next year.

By signing a contract with Red Bull, Perez filled the last vacant spot in the Formula 1 starting line for the 2021 season, thus shattering hopes for the return of Nic Hulkenberg, who was also one of the candidates for a Red Bull seat.
