It’s no secret that Liberty Media would like to expand the current calendar up to the 25 races per season. However, that cannot really be done without shortening the race weekend as 25 races would prove to be too demanding for the drivers and other employees of the teams in the current format.

After two practice sessions have been cancelled at Imola, it was clear that FIA is seriously looking to revise the Formula 1 weekend. Therefore, it has been decided that first changes towards this goal will be made in the 2021 season already. Friday’s practice sessions will not last 90 minutes anymore as until now, but 60 minutes only. Meaning, the teams will have an hour less of practice to prepare for qualifying and race. The third practice session will remain intact as before, lasting an hour time as well.
