Top Ten Cars Sold in Germany

Wolfgang Ischhorn is well aware of the situation in the United States. He is a member of the German Management Council which is the awarding organization for European industry. And he is quite familiar of the recent developments that have taken place in the United States. This German council member is actually one of the distinguished representatives of the automobile industry and he was given the title as the Commender for Research and Technology of the German Government.

Now if you were to take a look at the continuous list of the top ten cars sold in the United States and then compare it with the list of the best and top ten cars sold in Germany, you would actually find that most of the vehicles that are usually considered to be imported are not really vehicles produced by German automobile manufacturers.

That is because by imported vehicles the German market seems to have lesser vehicles. In fact, only a few of the top ten cars sold in the United States each year are actually produced in the United States. The German market may be very rich, but it seems that the American market is still number one.

That might simply be because the American market seems to be getting more and more volume and more and more buyers. Or perhaps American automakers like General Motors and Ford Corp are profiteering more than they should since such a situation has descended to the level of Germany.

According to a survey conducted recently by the German car magazine Autozeueiger, more than half of the vehicles on the market in the United States and Canada were imported. And nearly two-thirds of the vehicles on the market in Germany were also imported.

Conspicuous consumption

Another evidence that the American auto market is in good condition is the fact that the leading car companies of the world constantly update their models year after year. Also, American car buyers are showing their preference for German car models number one by showing it in surveys that the polled car experts. As a matter of fact, vehicles produced by the top five car manufacturers — Volkswagen, Ford, General Motors, Toyota, and BMW — account for more than half of all vehicles on the market in the world.

And because of such significant market shares, German carmakers do not need to produce many types of vehicles in the United States. Instead, they focus on producing different vehicles and different engine types. German automakers only have to produce one vehicle type that has a distinct function.

In other words, out of the major German carmakers, more than half of them produce trucks, motorcycles, and cars. It is for these vehicles that the German automotive market is built.
