Even though McLaren finished third in the Constructors’ Championship 2021, McLaren CEO Zak Brown is satisfied with the past year overall. “We wanted to close the gap to the top, and we succeeded in a way,” summarizes the American, looking back on the past Formula 1 season.

“We scored more points in races than the year before. We had more podiums than the year before. We had our great one-two in Monza, we had our pole in Russia. Unfortunately we are slipped down to fourth place. I think that shows how tough the competition is in this sport,” Brown said.

Despite this championship setback, he feels that 2021 was an important year for the team from Woking, and not only because of the surprise victory of Daniel Ricciardo at Monza, McLaren’s first win in nine years.

“The pit stops are gotten much, much better. Everything that we in the USA set out to do at the beginning of the season to get further up the field, we achieved, with the exception of the Constructors’ Championship,” emphasizes the 50-year-olds.

Therefore, the year must be described as “a very successful year” “We’re building on that to hopefully be fighting for the World Championship again in a few years.”

“I think we’re on the right track in every way,” says Brown. “We have all the people in place. They are all very dedicated and committed to the long term, whether they are racers, team bosses, engineers, or designers. I’m really happy with our people and that’s the most important thing. “
