Formula One Honda boss Toyoharu Tanabe is convinced that the latest results from the Red Bull and Toro Rosso teams prove that the powertrain of the Japanese manufacturer is already close to that of Mercedes and Ferrari powertrains.
Max Verstappen has made two victories in the last four races, and the Dutchman has also celebrated on the track in Austria, where powertrain is crucial. Honda is pleased with the progress this season, and Toyoharu Tanabe claims that Honda will continue to expand in the course of the season.
We are already very close to the numbers achieved by Mercedes and Ferrari, but we have not yet fully captured them. Max's victories prove that we have taken a major step forward and that we do not intend to stop with development. We have managed to reach pole position, which confirms that we are also making progress in the power of the drive unit. We are pleased with the progress, but we will not be satisfied with this and will continue to develop intensively.
