Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff once again rejected the possibility of Fernando Alonso returning to the wheel of a silver car as teammate Lewis Hamilton, as they are not ready for a repeat event in Brackley 2007 when Alonso and Hamilton were racing for Mclaren.
While talking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Wolff revealed that he appreciates Alonsa, but stresses that there is no room for a two-time Mercedes World Champion.
“I don't imagine Alonso racing with Hamilton at Mercedes. We certainly do not want to repeat certain stories, and as a result this is not a realistic option for us. Fernando is a great racer who certainly deserves his place in Formula One, but sometimes a good race is not enough, as you need to look at the bigger picture.
On the other hand, Wolff does not reject the possibility of Mercedes strengthening Max Verstappen in the future.
“Max is undoubtedly one of the best racers in F1 that any team would want. After the season 2020 everything is possible and we will see what happens. ”
