Formula One powertrain manufacturers have proposed a freeze on the development of hybrid technology due to the rising cost.
According to German AMuS, the initiative to freeze the development of powertrains comes from the French Renualt, and is also agreed with Mercedes, Ferrari and Honda.
The intent of the manufacturers was also confirmed by Renault team boss Cyril Abiteboul:
“From 2021, the development of powertrains must be frozen, otherwise costs will skyrocket. By then, we will probably all be on a similar level. ”
Red Bull leader Helmut Marko also agrees:
“Development must be frozen, as we all know that the last tenth of a second is the most expensive. Already in the era of V8 engines, we have seen how much money can be saved, and with current technology, the savings will be much higher. ”
