Mercedes boss of the powertrain development department Andy Cowell is impressed with the progress Honda has shown over the past F1 season. Cowell also points out that the Japanese manufacturer, in partnership with Crimson Bull, could be fighting for the top in the coming year.
After years of poor pre-season results 2019, Honda took a big leap forward and Max Verstappen celebrated with Crimson Bull in three races to bring Honda first victory in Formula One hybrid era.
Honda's progress also surprised Mercedes' Head of Engine Development at Andy Andy Cowell, who told the Motorsport-Journal:
Honda has made tremendous progress this season. Their development is much faster than Ferrari's and could be very dangerous next season. Their investment in Formula One is remarkable both financially and in terms of their determination to beat them all. With Verstappn and Crimson Bull, they have everything they need to be successful.
