Davide Brivio’s new role within Alpine was a question of major speculation in the past week after his departure from Suzuki. However, things start to take shape at Alpine as Brivio will take over the newly-created role of a Racing Director within the French team.

The Italian left Suzuki after the championship-winning season. “We are delighted to confirm Davide Brivio will strengthen our team ahead of the 2021 FIA Formula 1 World Championship season,” Alpine said in a statement. “His specific role and responsibilities will be announced in the coming weeks.”

Since the announcement, new information has surfaced to the top. With Laurent Rossi securing Alpine CEO position and Marcin Budkowski being linked with the role of Team Principal, Brivio is set to take over as a Racing Director. “Davide will report to the Alpine CEO, Laurent Rossi. Davide joins Alpine with a wealth of experience and success following more than 20 years in the MotoGP World Championship. We look forward to welcoming Davide as we start the next stage of our Formula 1 journey.” continued the statement. Brivio’s arrival is part of sweeping changes being made to Renault’s Formula 1 team.

Furthermore, Luca de Meo, CEO of the Renault group has insisted it is not an issue that Brivio has gained all his expertise only in motorcycling: “Of course he is the outgoing world champion of Moto GP, with Suzuki, on two wheels,” De Meo told Corriere della Sera. “But it doesn’t matter if there are four wheels on this side. He is an excellent professional, he knows the flavour of a track, the importance of having a close-knit team, entrusting everyone with a specific role. He knows how to organize the work in this way.”
