After Aston Martin announced the separation from Otmar Szafnauer at the beginning of the month, the Formula 1 crew didn’t waste much time in identifying a successor. Mike Krack was announced as the new team boss on Friday.

Mike Krack used to work with Sebastian Vettel at BMW-Sauber.

Krack has a career path similar to that of McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl. At the beginning of his career, he worked in Formula 1 for a decade, first for Sauber and then for BMW-Sauber, where he met Sebastian Vettel before. After that, Krack gained experience in other categories.

2009 he left the premier class and worked in Formula 3 and DTM before he 2012 switched to Porsche in the Endurance World Championship and worked together with Seidl. In 2007 he returned to BMW as an engineer, where he most recently headed the worldwide Motorsport operations of the brand.

At Aston Martin, Krack will work under the direction of team owner Lawrence Stroll and CEO Martin Whitmarsh, who was appointed late last year.

Krack is looking forward to seeing Vettel

“Aston Martin is one of the biggest car brands in the world”, says Krack. “To be asked to play a leading role in achieving the successes such a name deserves is a challenge I accept with vigor and enthusiasm.”

Especially he is happy to again join forces with Vettel: “I’ve been working for over 20 years in motorsport and have  worked with Seb Vettel in Formula 1 when I was an engineer at BMW-Sauber and he was a test driver at the team.”

“I have a lot of respect for his speed and ability and it will be fantastic to work with him again. Lance too Stroll is a very fast and talented driver and I look forward to working closely with him.”
