Mike Krack becomes the new Aston team boss
Aston Martin has revealed the secret of who will succeed Otmar Szafnauer as team boss. In the future, BMW sports director Mike Krack will be at the helm of Sebastian Vettel’s racing team. The Heppenheimer and the Luxemburger have a common past. By the way, a successor for Krack at BMW has already been found.
This personality came as a surprise. It was actually assumed that Martin Whitmarsh would take over the management of the Aston Martin F1 Group in the future. The former McLaren team boss only switched to the factory team in Silverstone last season as managing director of the F1 technology division. But now owner Lawrence Stroll has pulled a completely different name out of a hat that only a few experts would have expected.
Like the racing team on Friday (14.1.), Mike Krack takes over the role of team boss. The Luxembourger will succeed Otmar Szafnauer, who left Aston Martin at the turn of the year. With Krack, Sebastian Vettel gets an old acquaintance as team boss who was chief engineer at BMW Sauber when Vettel began his F1 career as a test driver.
Krack can now expect more than 20 years of experience in motorsport. After his time at Sauber, he moved to the management team of the racing department at Porsche. 2014 then followed the move to BMW, whereas head of sport he oversaw activities in Formula E and long-distance sport in the IMSA and the WEC.
