“it’s-not-normal-for-him-to-try-crazy-things”-–-tardozzi

Ducati Team Manager said he wasn’t expecting Dovi’s final corner move in Spielberg when speaking to MotoGP™ pitlane reporter Simon Crafar

Ducati Team Manager Davide Tardozzi’s celebrations following the Austrian Grand Prix turned him into quite the social media sensation. The Italian wildly celebrated all due to Desmo Dovi’s last lap, last corner dive under the inside of Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team), which was something he admits he wasn’t expecting to happen.

“He did a good strategy,” said Tardozzi, speaking to MotoGP™ pitlane reporter Simon Crafar during FP1 at Silverstone. “It was not so easy to take this decision to try the overtake on Marc in the last corner but Dovi said he deserved this victory, so he wanted to try. It’s not normal for him to try crazy things but he did it and did it perfectly.

Meanwhile, there were differing fortunes on the opposite side to the garage with Danilo Petrucci ending ninth, just a week after finishing eighth in Brno. The Italian Grand Prix winner hasn’t been in the same form as the first half of the season but Tardozzi believes the Bologna factory have found the reason behind his disappointing seven days in the Czech Republic and Austria.

“Danilo had a tough weekend at both of the last two races in Brno and Austria, but it’s just a matter of mentality. Now we understand he hasn’t to think about third in the championship and not take any risks. This is racing, and he must take his own risks and try to do the best every race.”

Both Dovizioso and Petrucci’s 2019 Desmosedici have been spotted with an older aero package at the GoPro British Grand Prix, but Tardozzi confirmed the pair will revert back to the updated aero tomorrow: “Just a matter of that we don’t have that many parts so tomorrow we will have the new one.”
