Suzuki Team Manager spoke to motogp.com pitlane reporter Simon Crafar during FP1 at Silverstone

During FP1 at the GoPro British Grand Prix, Team Suzuki Ecstar Team Manager Davide Brivio took time to chat with motogp.com pitlane reporter Simon Crafar about the latest on Joan Mir, Alex Rins’ Austria struggles and Sylvain Guintoli’s KymiRing feedback.

“He’s well, I mean he’s recovering well. He feels OK but he felt he needed to be fully recovered on his lungs, but everything is going okay,” began Brivio, talking about Mir’s condition after the Spaniard suffered a heavy testing crash at Brno.

“The problem was he couldn’t train for a couple of weeks so now he’s restarted his training. We decided to skip this race to be fully recovered and fully fit. Next week we have a test in Misano for two days so it’s a golden opportunity for him to come back and slowly get back on the bike and riding, and then prepare for the Misano race where I think he’ll be 100%.”

Teammate Rins was the sole Suzuki rider on track at the Red Bull Ring, with the number 42 claiming a P6 on what was always going to be a tricky weekend for the GSX-RR.

“It was something a little bit special for that track, he was struggling to brake and stop the bike with some feeling. It was something that happened there, but I don’t think we’ll have it here. Today we will know more though, Silverstone normally isn’t a bad track for us, but we’ll see how he goes today.”

And finally, the KymiRing has been a big talking point in the MotoGP™ paddock after factory test riders visited the circuit for a two-day test ahead of the British GP. What did Guintoli – a replacement for Mir at Silverstone – make of the new Finnish circuit?

“The first impression was so-so because there were many tight corners in first and second gear for most of the lap, but at the end Sylvain had a good impression and said it’s fun. It looks ok but we’ll see when we go with all the contracted riders.”
