(Motorsport-Total.com) – For a week now, the second season of the Formula 1 documentary “Pressure to Survive” has been running on Netflix ), and as in the first season, Günther Steiner is again one of the most vividly portrayed actors in the series. In episode 2 (“At the boiling point”) the head of the Haas Group sets an unusual record: nine times “Fuck” in 30 Seconds!
In the end the episode deals with the race in Silverstone 2019, in which Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen drove into each other's car in the first lap. In “Pressure to Survive” Netflix shows previously unpublished recordings and audio recordings from the Slack the curtain area of the Haas Group.
It starts with a mechanic who is the two Driver called “damn idiots” (fucking = damn), further on Grosjean, who swears “damn shit” on the pit radio, and Magnussen, who rages in the field (“I have to calm down, otherwise I'll do some nonsense”) – right up to team boss Steiner, who demands: “End this damn tragedy.”
Then Steiner calls the drivers to the report. The South Tyrolean has his office in the glass palace of the Haas Group on the upper floor. There he lets his anger run free behind closed doors – and sets a new Netflix record: “I got really fed up with both of you! You left the damn crew hanging.”
“You let me down, even though I protected you all the time. I don't fucking go into discussions about who is to blame and who is not.” Because “this damn whining” gets on his nerves. As a reminder: Shortly before that, in Barcelona, there had been a crash between Grosjean and Magnussen.
Particularly great wrestle Steiner's anger in that team owners Gene Haas was apparently thinking about ending his Formula 1 project at that time : “Gene is investing hundreds of damn millions out of his own damn money. Now he wants to pull the damn plug and let everyone down because you are two damned idiots! “
” I damn no longer have to tell you. If you don't like this, I don't need you here anymore “Please don't come back,” rages Steiner – and sends the two brawlers out of his office.
But that doesn't work without collateral damage. In the documentary you can hear Magnussen throwing the door shut when he leaves. And Steiner doesn't just let that sit on him in the heat of the moment: “He doesn't fucking do that to me! He doesn't throw my damn office door shut. […] He should fucking fuck off! Both.”
A little later you can see Steiner walking past Robert Fernley, the former deputy of Force India, in the paddock. He grumbles: “We have two damn idiots in the crew. This is not acceptable. We will make changes. If it were my decision, I would fire them both.”
Yes it remained empty words. When he rounded up the media a little later to give his view of the best, Steiner sounded diplomatic : “We are one Crew. Everyone has to work for the crew – and not for themselves. We have to de-energize everyone first. I have to come down and then we come to a solution. “
He first needed a “clear head”, then he would make a decision “how we sort it out, because that is not acceptable.” How the debate after Silverstone went, in which the minds could be calmed down again, can not be seen in “Pressure to Survive”. Unfortunately …
