Formula One legend and non-executive director of Renault Alain Prost is pleased to replace Nico Hulkenberg in 2020, as he said the German approach was negative and pessimistic.
The Renault team confirms that in the F1 season 2020 Nice Hulkenberg will be replaced by the former test driver of the Mercedes Esteban Ocon. The Frenchman will join forces with Daniel Ricciardo at the wheel at 2020, while Nico Hulkenberg will have to find a new employer.
Alain Prost said earlier that Renault initially wanted to retain Hulkenberg, but the German did not accept the contract offered.
“We have offered Hulkenberg a contract for 2020 with the possibility of an extension for another year. Nico rejected our proposal because he wanted a two-year contract. I do not want to reveal details, but in the end we decided on Esteban, who will bring the necessary freshness to our team. In fact, Nico was too negative. His statements that even in the off-season 2020 we have no chance were, in my opinion, excessively pessimistic. I am convinced that Ocon will be much more motivated and its approach to racing for Renault to be extremely positive. ”
