official:-ricciardo-disqualified

FIE Commissioners have disqualified Daniel Ricciard from malfunctioning of the MGU-K system from the qualification results. The Australian, who qualified for the eighth starting position, will start from the last starting row, and if the gearbox is changed, he will most likely start the race for the GP of Singapore.

Daniel Ricciardo finished eighth in qualifying, and a regular inspection of his car would indicate irregularities in the MGU-K system, which would produce more electricity than required by the FIE Technical Regulations.

In his report, FIE Technical Delegate Jo Bauer stated that Ricciardo should exceed the 120 kW limit, as far as the MGU-K unit can produce, as a rule. Bauer referred the matter to the commissioners, who called the Renault team for defense, eventually disqualifying Ricciardo from qualifying. Renault must now apply to the FIO for a Riccard start from the last start row.
