I went back to listen to the team radios on F1TV. Bottas’ engineer is updating him constantly about Albon ahead coming up to the last few corners, Bottas’ engineer says “Albon 4.2 ahead. Plenty safe”. Meanwhile, Lewis get minimal updates throughout the lap from Bono, but Bono says something I cannot clearly make out, something to do with Lewis starting his lap in Sector 3. Lewis picks up is pace considerably and meets up on Bottas going at a crawl in the last few corners. Bottas slowed to a crawl after his engineer told him the was safe on distance to Albon. I dont think Lewis expected to see Bottas going that slow when the spacing was timed out by the engineers.
On the in-lap Bottas says “I don’t know, Lewis was tooling around. I was just leaving a gap to the car ahead”. No word from Lewis or Bono on the in-lap
This may just be a misunderstanding, or Lewis just said fukkit I need to get my best lap in, or some other unknown situation between them. Either way, Lewis has some serious explaining to do. He owes Valtteri a apology. I would not expect to see that between teammates, with the exception on (Lewis v Nico)
