(Motorsport-Complete.com) – A season opener on June 7th battle for Formula 1 was already a novelty. Now the fight for the world title 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic begins later than planned for a few days. Because even the Big Prix of Azerbaijan in Baku cannot keep its scheduled date.

'Motorsport-Complete.com' has learned from a reliable source: The organizer of the spectacular city race decided in a crisis session on Sunday the Big Prix 2020 to postpone. There is no talk of a final cancellation. However, there is no new date either.

Just like the Automobile Membership de Monaco (ACM), Baku also has the self-discipline that requires building the temporary infrastructure for Formula 1 in the city ( for example, grandstands and paddock) is unthinkable under the current exit restrictions.

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the Chinese Big Prix was first postponed and then the season opener in Australia. There is no new date for the first six races of the season; Monaco was even completely canceled for 2020.

The Baku decision means that the Formula 1 season 2020 (at the earliest) on 14. June will begin with the Canada Big Prix in Montreal. The race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve would have been just the eighth round of the season. And there is also a question mark.

It is therefore certain that 2020 will go down in Formula One history as a record. A World Cup season has never started later. Previous record holder battle the year 1951. At that time, the Swiss Big Prix took place in Bremgarten as the first race on 27. May instead.
