Sensible to not try and go it alone after what happened last time. Will be very interesting to see how they do, McLaren are absolutely gargantuan in terms of resources compared to the rest of the Indycar grid.

level 2

Yeah, they had to partner up to have someone with the infrastructure in the US, would be next to impossible to make things work from Woking.

Hoping they’ll do well from the get go, would be great redemption story. Now give me the driver list!

level 2

Not only that, but also full time! That’s the experience they were sorely missing in this year’s 500.

level 1

This is huge news for the sport internationally. Good for McLaren for going all in after their half-assed, failed Indy 500 bid this year.

I’m really intrigued to see what the driver lineup ends up being. I’m sure Hinchcliffe is gonna move to another Honda team, and I personally think Ericsson deserves another season after the pace he’s shown this year.

1 for Marshall Pruett and racer.com.

level 2

Autosport is the worst. They make 1 hour video of a 5 minute announcement

level 1

When was the last time a team ran in F1 and Indycar (or it’s equivalent) at the same time?

level 2

Probably Mclaren in 1979.

level 2

It was either McLaren or Penske

level 2

Haas Lola and Newman/Haas in 1985/86? Not exactly the same team, but Carl Haas wat at the helm of both.

level 1

Good for them. Hope Alonso runs the full season

level 2

that’s unlikely, prob just Indy entry

level 1

Hopefully with a dedicated team and more races McLaren can iron out the creases by the time the Indy500 rolls around.

I feel absolutely ecstatic! I’m a happy McLaren and IndyCar fan today. Great to see such a big team join another awesome motorsport. Today’s a good day!

level 1

Hmmm… I am glad to see McLaren on the Indycar grid, but I am not sure what would that mean for SPM’s current line-up. Hinch has been a reliable pair of hands and could really shine in a well-funded entry, and SPM promised to keep Wickens’ spot for when he is ready to return. Ericsson’s been gaining experience at a decent rate too. It’s a shame that this move didn’t actually lead to an increased number of cars at the end of the day.

level 2

Hinchcliffe is an international ambassador for Honda, so he’s definitely out. Honda will probably fund him a new car at a Honda team like RLL. Some articles suggest that Ericsson’s likely out as well. It’s also suggested that the team is ready to put together another full-time car if Alonso wants to do a full season, so I think it could be done with Wickens as well.

Having known about this for a little while, so excited to know the news is out, and that McLaren are devoted to Indycar. Partnering with a team should really iron out the issues from this year.

level 1

I really hope Ericsson will stay

level 1

Already looking forward to the team merch! Or I might just make some kind of patchwork shirt from my SPM and Mclaren shirts I already have haha

level 1

Brilliant news. Indycar will have another big name in the sport.

level 1

I really hope they get the color right this time… I flew all the way to Indianapolis this year, next year I’m waiting for him to qualify, buying last minute tickets and driving there.

level 1

Absolutely incredible news. My favorite indycar team and f1 team partnering up is awesome
