He even has a realistic chance to finish 6th. Albon will have to be very consistent to outscore Sainz. No other driver outside the top 3 has been 6th in the standings since 2015.

2012 was the last time McLaren finished in the top 6. When Hamilton and Button finished 4th and 5th respectively.

level 2

Maybe if Albon finishes 6th consistently he can overtake Sainz.

level 2

Yeah but in 2012 McLaren was a top team

Albon will have to be very consistent to outscore Sainz.

not really, one high scoring race which the Red Bull car has shown to be capable of and the gap to sainz would be easily achievable for rest of the season.

level 2

Agree. Also Ferrari will fuck up a couple of races anyway. I am more excited about this 6th and 7th battle in WDC than the battle between the top team drivers.

level 1

Sainz clearly the winner out of all of this.

Checkmate to everyone who says midfield can’t compete with the top 3!

level 2

How is that a tall order, that’s 5 points a race or so, should be easy in an red bull

level 2

If Albon finishes 6th for 9 races, he will have 72 points. Nothing is impossible, could be exciting to see how this unfolds.

level 2

It’s definitely doable though. It’s difficult, but a couple of fantastic races will bring that gap down to nothing. Even if he finishes 6th every race, that’s 72 points. I think he might manage it.

level 2

If he is consistently on top of the midfield he will absolutely do it.

level 1

Is Sainz still linked to red bull? Maybe he can be an option for 2020

level 2

He was released last year
