I used to enjoy poking fun at McLaren as a Honda fan after the switch.. but shit.. I legit felt bad yesterday when both Sainz and Norris blew their motors when I’m a fan of both those guys.. :/

I used to enjoy poking fun at Honda as a McLaren fan after the switch. But shit… Renault is not much better than Honda 2015-2017, while Honda haven’t had a single PU failure over the last 1.5 years. It was a month ago that McLaren said they enjoy open and honest relationships with Renault and now they already want transparency

level 2

You can still poke fun at Mclaren and be sympathetic towards their drivers 🙂 I’m enjoying this immensely since all the Honda haters over the years have apparently crawled back into their little holes where they came from.

level 1

I got all the transparency they need:

Renault is shit.

I think everyone does lol

Redbull wanted it but they got told it was their fault basically lol

level 2

Redbull has done the best thing to go with Honda. Redbull and Renault relationship was toxic.

Cyril: “No, nothing wrong with the engine, it’s 1000bhp and capable of a title challenge. It might be the chassis like when it was in the RBR.”

The Ex Lotus Teamchef Carter once said in a MA podcast episode that he wouldn‘t be surprised if McLaren suddenly gets reliability issues in the closing stages of the season… It‘s essential for Renault to become best of the rest and by all means necessary,I‘m not saying that that is what is happening, but Carter implied it heavily back then that engine suppliers have a lot of things to play with in order to achieve their team goals

level 2

That’d be a huge scandal if proof of it came out.

A few years ago, 2017 I think, people talked about that and how Renault were sabotaging ToroRosso to beat them in the final races and gain one place in the constructors standings and with that win more 10 million euros.. ToroRosso were exploding there engines all the time in the last few races.. That was one of the first things that made me not trust in Cyril…

level 2

I really hope this story gains traction because their only defence is that they are in fact just really bad.

It is a PR disaster. Their is no good spin to any of this. They are already comfortably the worst engine package on the grid. The last thing the need is more attention to that fact.

HQ could pull the plug if they don’t turn things around by 2021.

level 2

7-8th places is 10 points, so they’d have to do that while McLaren double blow up for four races to catch up. Gonna be hilarious if it happens.

Dude. I remember that, and if Renault believes the McLaren doesn’t have another choice for PU supply for 2021, or they can get away with a little sabotage, I don’t put it past them to occasionally deliver an engine with less than perfect tolerances to McLaren, the customer team who’s beating them and costing them WDC prize money.

Renault might overtake Rich Energy as THEE villain of the 2019/2020 season if proven true. Oof.

How can some of these teams trust the manufacturer that they are competing with almost every weekend? Honor system? That’s honestly scary to think about. If I were a Team Principal I’d be having sleepless nights.
