Resign means to leave employment voluntarily

Re-sign means to sign a contract with the same employer

The hyphen makes all the difference

Sadly people these days don’t think that spelling and grammar are that important. “Well, you know what I mean”… maybe I do, maybe I don’t, maybe you should learn to communicate better.
