I think Vettel was caught off guard here by the overspeed and was too shook to defend the next pass attempt where Lewis got past.

He said Lewis was in his blind spot and couldn’t really close the door because he didn’t know exactly where he was. He would have taken a wider line and taken the clean air off like Rosberg did in 2015 if he knew.
