For the lazy:

The Stewards reviewed multiple camera angles, some of which appeared to show that the tyres were not in contact with the white line of the track edge however other angles appeared to show that part of the front “wheel” (when viewed from above) may have been within the bounds of the white line. This cast an element of doubt which is considered significant enough to give the “benefit of doubt” to the driver in question.

level 2

That’s odd, as the rule is about “contact”, not simply being above.

Hard to understand how a view from directly above would aid in making this distinction.

level 2

So they can see on some angles that he was out, but the view from above, where you can’t see the contact point, makes it look like he’s maybe in…

level 1

Just remember they have a lot more cameras than we do before you jump to a rage filled conclusion

level 2

The description says it was inconclusive so he got the benefit of the doubt, which seems like the fair thing to do. He probably got lucky here.

level 2

According to the decision he got cleared because of the “benefit of the doubt”. FIA saw camera angles that appeared to show he was outside and angles that appeared to show he wasn’t.

Seems ambiguous to me..

level 2

don’t you only need one camera to show he was off the track?

level 2

but Ferrari International Assistance tho 🙁

level 2

Sure would be nice if they’d include said footage, wouldn’t it?

level 2

We only need one camera that clearly shows him over the 4 lines though…

level 2

but everyone complained when Vettel got a penalty in Canada despite stewards having a lot more cameras?

level 2

It doesn’t get more blatant than this.

level 1

Everyone: Surely there are going to be penalties for at least half of them.

FIA: How about no.

level 1

I mean, they reviewed all angles, its not 100% decisive, so in my opinion, it’s the right call
