Agreed, if they punish anyone it should be the teams for setting up this mess and not telling their drivers to get on with it.
Watch this POV from Hülkenberg with team radio and tell me the engineer is not fucking up. Nico is told going through Ascari in sector 3 that there’s no slowing down now (and he didn’t even make the line, not even close). Every driver plays chicken in that scenario, there’s no rule governing drivers on outlaps in such a situation, it’s the teams that have the information and the ability to not put drivers in possibly dangerous positions (for that look at turn 3 in that clip, Nico almost hits Sainz who suddenly lifts off).
